I developed a virtual environment to help people explore, get motivated, and combat negative emotions. The setting features a darkly lit house symbolizing unpleasant feelings, enhanced by ethereal and dark ambient music to create a gloomy atmosphere. Users search for and face these negative emotions represented by objects in various rooms. By clicking on and destroying these objects, users metaphorically overcome their challenges, similar to psychiatric therapy. Some objects convey health and life messages, such as how constant anger affects health. Upon overcoming these emotions, users exit to a beautiful world with natural sounds, increasing happiness and inner peace. They can explore coastal areas, mountains, and other landscapes, emphasizing the beauty of the outside world.
My goal was to build a virtual environment where people could explore, get motivated, and fight off bad feelings. The setting was divided into two sections: the darkly lit house symbolises the unpleasant feelings that people harbour and keep you there. I created some ethereal and dark ambient music to go with this setup and enhance the gloomy atmosphere of the house. The user can search for those negative emotions and access several doors to face and overcome them. Similar to receiving psychiatric therapy or overcoming any other hurdle in life, the first step towards success is facing the challenge head-on.
Thus, the initial task for players is to discover such things in various rooms that stand in for bad feelings. Once they have located those objects, users may click on them to destroy them. A few items were also made with the intention of communicating ideas about health and life. Anger and Health, for instance, are two items in the same room. The Health will be disappeared after users walking through the Anger, and only Anger will be remained. This metaphor suggests that having a constant state of anger will negatively impact both your physical and mental health. The front door of this house will automatically open to show a beautiful new world outside as soon as the user approaches it.
The gloomy atmosphere will end as soon as people go outside the door, and natural sounds like birdsong and wind will begin to play. This will increase their happiness as they overcome their bad feelings and ultimately discover inner peace. The user can then navigate the stunning outside world. They can visit the coast to see and listen to the sea, or they can explore other geographical features of this small land by the sea. Mountains are nearby, and users can even climb them to get a better view of the vastness of the world. People shouldn't let their inner monsters control them while ignoring how beautiful the outside world is.
